Southern Land Company hosted an open house at the Windstone Sales Center Sunday, April 13. The event was the first opportunity for visitors to tour several homes in the new community. Guests were treated to entertainment by singer/songwriter Jackie Wilson as well as a container gardening demonstration by Southern Land Company’s famous “flower ladies.”

The Imperial Sugar Refinery Site project won an award in the category of “2008 Land Deal,” with judges citing the numerous partners in the deal and resolution of multiple challenges through cooperation among public and private entities.
Property once owned by the Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land, Texas—a town west of Houston that has been the company’s home base since operations began in 1843—is being developed into a 650-acre mixed-use community that incorporates commercial and retail space, as well as single-family homes. Environmental remediation began in March, and construction of the first phase of the project is expected to begin early next year.

Multiple homes in various stages of construction dot the more than 700 acres Southern Land Company -- a company that has completed or is in the process of developing 17 communities with a total investment value of $1.7 billion -- has procured on Hwy 380 just east of Stonebridge Dr. SLC calls the development Tucker Hill and come Saturday, several homes will be open for public viewing.
Tucker Hill, McKinney’s newest traditional neighborhood, will be giving Greater Goodies – chocolate truffles hand made by residents of the inn – to prospective home owners in an effort to support the Samaritan Inn, Collin County’s only homeless shelter.
Southern Land Company, the developer of Tucker Hill, has partnered with the Samaritan as part of a larger initiative to raise awareness of issues surrounding homelessness in Collin County. Tucker Hill purchases the chocolate from the Samaritan Inn and sends it to people who tour the models. The money made helps support the vocational training program at the Samaritan Inn, which teaches job skills to residents of the shelter.
The Westhaven Residents Club will be used as a new voting precinct for more than 2,400 residents in western Franklin, including those who live in the Westhaven, Willow Springs and Franklin Green subdivisions.
The Windstone sales office is being relocated from its current location at the entrance to Windstone to the Showcase Townhome on Thursday, March 17th. The Showcase Townhome is located at 6114 Pleasant Water Lane. The sales office hours will remain the same. They are Monday through Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday’s 1:00pm-6:00pm.
