The tour will begin on Friday, May 16, and end on Sunday May 18. On Friday, the tour will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.; on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tickets for the tour will be $10 per person with all proceeds benefiting WAVES Inc., a 35-year-old non-profit agency that provides a wide range of support and services to adults and children with developmental disabilities in Williamson County. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of North Texas – an organization that helps children with life-threatening medical conditions experience their greatest wish – and HomeAid/Home Builders Care – a non-profit created by the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas dedicated to fighting homelessness – are again the charitable beneficiaries of this year’s Parade.

For 46 years, children with life-threatening illnesses have arrived at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, hoping for a cure. The hospital does its work quietly, day in and day out, not only finding new ways to treat diseases, such as leukemia, but also finding new methods to fund the treatments that insurance won't cover.

One of the most popular fundraisers for the hospital takes place this year in the Westhaven community of Franklin, where a $700,000 home will be raffled with virtually all proceeds going to fund lifesaving research at St. Jude.

Southern Land Company hosted an open house at the Windstone Sales Center Sunday, April 13. The event was the first opportunity for visitors to tour several homes in the new community. Guests were treated to entertainment by singer/songwriter Jackie Wilson as well as a container gardening demonstration by Southern Land Company’s famous “flower ladies.”

Westhaven Town Center continues to expand as two new businesses: The Spectacle Shoppe and Townsend Academy, commit to the quaint and growing commercial village in the heart of one of Williamson county’s most successful communities; Westhaven.

A City partnership with Southern Land Company, Cherokee Investment Partners and Newland Communities resulted in two Houston Business Journal (HBJ) Landmark awards. 

The Imperial Sugar Refinery Site project won an award in the category of “2008 Land Deal,” with judges citing the numerous partners in the deal and resolution of multiple challenges through cooperation among public and private entities.

Property once owned by the Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land, Texas—a town west of Houston that has been the company’s home base since operations began in 1843—is being developed into a 650-acre mixed-use community that incorporates commercial and retail space, as well as single-family homes. Environmental remediation began in March, and construction of the first phase of the project is expected to begin early next year.
