St. Jude Green Dream Home - Laura Faber
Going green is a trend that's picking up momentum across the U.S. as homeowners struggle with high utility bills.
The green effort stretches all the way to this year's St. Jude dream home; the lucky winner gets eco-friendly house.
From an energy efficient roof to a special low flow commode, Fox 17's Laura Faber shows us some of what makes up nearly $50,000 worth of green amenities.
This year's St. Jude Dream Home is in the Westhaven community in Franklin. The $650,000 home promises to save whoever moves in big bucks on utilities.
Chris Bove, with the Southern Land Company says "We weren't necessarily trying to go green, we were trying to accomplish to provide the homeowner with a more energy efficient home...reduce energy costs especially given today's market and give something back to the environment .. reduce the footprint we're leaving."
Nearly $50,000 worth of donated eco-friendly products was donated to this years dream home.
Experts claim these eco-friendly additions on an average home pay for themselves in energy savings in seven years.
