Southern Land Co. – a Tennessee-based developer – has 772 acres in McKinney
for its latest project.
The property was previously owned by Billingsley Co. and is located on
University Drive near the Stonebridge Ranch community.
Southern Land plans a community that will contain more than 2,000 homes.
"We are going through the city approval process," said spokesman Jim Cheney.
"I think we'll have the first lot deliveries later this year."
The developer expects homes in the community to sell for between $300,000 and
$1 million. Southern Land is taking cues for the Collin County project from a
development it has in Franklin, Tenn.
The big residential project is being patterned after traditional communities
and will include a club, swimming pools, trails and parks.
Southern Land is also building a smaller, mixed-use project in Keller,
northeast of Fort Worth.
Called Arthouse, the development includes retail, commercial and residential.
