Westhaven Home and Other Prizes Raise $1.4 Million
for Children’s Hospital
Spring Hill Couple Wins $600,000 Home
FRANKLIN, TN (June 20, 2007) – Southern Land Company, LLC and media partners Fox 17 and WSIX have set a new fundraising record for St. Jude Children’s hospital, raising $1.4 million in Middle Tennessee’s 2007 Dream Home® Giveaway.
This is only the 3rd year that St. Jude has operated a campaign in Middle Tennessee and the volunteer participation, community sponsors participation and amount of money raised are unprecedented on a national scale.
“The Dream Home campaign began in 1991,” said Katie Mizell, St. Jude representative for Nashville. “Since that time, no partner has sold 14,000 tickets in a single campaign. We are very proud of this accomplishment and excited about the years to come.”
Georgia Nidiffer from Spring Hill, TN was the grand-prize winner of a newly built, $600,000 valued home announced during the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. Her winning ticket, bought through a direct mail piece on March 22, was pulled from among 14,000 tickets during Fox’s live TV special on Sunday, June 17th. Numerous other prizes were given away to ticket holders during the event. Ticket buyers had a 1 in 500 chance of winning a prize, with each prize.
This year’s Dream Home is the third to be located in the community of Westhaven. Westhaven is a Traditional Neighborhood Development located on Highway 96 West in Franklin, TN (www.westhaventn.com). The 2007 Dream Home® was constructed by SLC Homebuilding, with the help of local vendors and subcontractors, including Boral Bricks Direct, Milcraft Inc., Erhart Concrete, Myers Plumbing and Wellborn Forest Cabinetry.
Amy Grant, longtime supporter of St. Jude, and husband Vince Gill served as this year’s co-chairs for the campaign. The event was kicked off with a free concert at The Westhaven Residents’ Club on March 1st. Attendees mingled, enjoyed the music, and were the first to support this years’ campaign by buying a $100 ticket.
"Vince and I are thrilled with the success of this year's St. Jude Dream Home campaign,” said Grant. “It is exciting to know that the people of Middle Tennessee and surrounding areas contributed to the single most successful Dream Home campaign ever”.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tenn., was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. The hospital is an internationally recognized biomedical research center dedicated to finding cures for catastrophic diseases of childhood. The hospital’s work is supported through funds raised by the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC). All St. Jude patients are treated regardless of their ability to pay. ALSAC covers all costs of treatment beyond those reimbursed by third party insurers, and total costs for families who have no insurance. For more information, please visit www.stjude.org.
