Course Designer Arthur Hills to Lead Tee Off Event
Franklin, Tennessee – Southern Land Company, LLC will break ground on its Westhaven Golf Course on August 9, 2007 at 10 a.m. The Tee Off event will take place on-site at Westhaven. The event is free and open to the public.
Non-Westhaven residents in attendance will have their first opportunity to sign-up for a limited number of memberships that will be made available to the general public in the coming weeks.
Arthur Hills, an internationally recognized course designer and the architect of Westhaven’s 18-hole core golf course, will be on hand to celebrate the beginning of construction. Also in attendance will be the club’s first members, and Southern Land Company executives.
Located on 1,500 acres off of Highway 96 West, Westhaven (www.westhaventn.com) is a master-planned, mixed-use community in West Franklin. At completion, it will include over 2,700 homes with a town center, numerous amenities and 800 acres of open space. The golf course is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2009.
“The initial membership drive has been very well received,” said EVP of Community Development, Brian Sewell. “There has been much anticipation surrounding this course, and we are very excited that the time has come to break ground on what we hope will be one of the region’s finest golfing experiences.”
Mr. Hills’ firm, Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates, is well recognized in the world of golf. Its reach is international in scope, and its courses have consistently ranked among the best in the world.
“Mr. Hills’ involvement in this course is a tremendous asset to the members and will only add to the overall quality of Westhaven,” said Sewell. “His talent and attention to detail creates a challenging, yet fun course that will be appealing to all levels of golfers.”
One-hundred-sixty-four people have joined the Westhaven course to date, with a total of approximately 500 memberships available. Thus far, spots have only been offered to residents of the community. At the groundbreaking ceremony on August 9, the general public will have its first opportunity to sign-up to purchase non-resident memberships which will require a $12,500 initiation fee (which may be paid in installments) and monthly dues of $350. Those on the list will be contacted in the early fall to determine if they would like to join the club. Space will be limited and signing the list on August 9 will not guarantee a membership invitation.
The Westhaven Golf Club will also feature a clubhouse, grill, tennis facility, pro shop, banquet hall facilities, and a full-time staff. The clubhouse is in its initial design phase which is being overseen by Southern Land Company’s Architecture studio and outside consultant Richard Diedrich, AIA – a nationally recognized clubhouse architect based in Atlanta, GA.
