Tim Downey
Chief Executive Officer

Tim Downey is the founder and CEO of Southern Land Company. He serves as the visionary and driving force behind the concepts and designs that distinguish Southern Land Company’s communities.

Southern Land Company’s 36 year history is anchored in Tim’s love of beautiful architecture and creating a sense of community that make people happy: Inspired by Walt Disney’s passion for creativity, innovation and interaction in the company and across projects, Tim’s vertically integrated business model enables direct communication between architecture, horticulture, construction and planning professionals. The result has been a growing portfolio of communities that are redefining their markets.


Brian Sewell
President and Chief Operating Officer

Brian joined Southern Land Company in 2002, and was named President in 2008. In this capacity, Brian oversees all activity related to the company’s residential, multifamily, commercial and office portfolios. Brian is also responsible for the operating departments, including commercial construction, property management, infrastructure, horticulture, home building and sales. From 2002 until 2008, Brian was responsible for Southern Land Company’s development activity in Tennessee and Texas.

Prior to joining Southern Land Company, Brian spent almost 10 years as Vice President and General Manager of Terrabrook in Tampa, Florida, where he oversaw development of a 2,000-acre master plan community with a high-end golf course, 3,000 homes and 150 acres of mixed-use development.

Brian received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University, majoring in Finance and Real Estate. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University with a concentration in Operations Management.

Alex Fisch
Chief Investment Officer

As Chief Investment Officer, Alex leads Southern Land Company’s capital markets activities, as well as developing and managing investor relationships for each of the company’s projects around the country. Alex focuses on integrating exceptional investment partners, key data, strategic analysis and careful execution to create long-term value for each Southern Land Company community.

Prior to joining Southern Land Company in 2014, Alex was a Managing Director for Guggenheim Securities, LLC. With more than 20 years of investment banking and corporate finance experience, Alex has completed more than 60 transactions totaling more than $7 billion during the course of his career, including private placements of debt and equity, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, valuations and fairness opinions.

Alex received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina and a Masters of Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate, from the University of Georgia. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Michael Lonsway
Chief Financial Officer

Mike Lonsway joined Southern Land Company in 2019 as Chief Financial Officer, and is responsible for all accounting, finance and resource optimization programs. He is a member of both the Investment and Executive Committee, providing business intelligence, analysis and strategic planning support. Mike has strong real estate experience at rapidly-growing publicly and privately held organizations, including a NYSE-traded REIT, commercial and residential assets management company, and a lifestyle-oriented property management and marketing organization.

He most recently served as EVP of the $9B Forest City Realty Trust, in Cleveland, OH. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miami University in 1990 and later attained a Certified Public Accountant Certificate. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


Kevin Holst
Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Kevin Holst leads the company’s legal practice including in-house legal support staff and outside law firms, coordinating all contract, due diligence, development, entitlements and land use matters. In addition, Kevin provides support and guidance to Southern Land team members on litigation, finance, lending, construction, employment, property management, and corporate governance. His is a valuable advisor on varying business and planning initiatives as the company continues to grow and expand nationally. Kevin also serves as a member of both the Investment and Executive Committees for the company.

Kevin previously served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel at the Colorado-based McWhinney real estate firm, where he managed all legal matters relating to commercial, multifamily, acquisitions and project development. Kevin also previously worked for Vail Resorts as assistant general counsel with legal responsibility over lodging, real estate and development, land use, employee housing and all real estate aspects of ski resort acquisition. Kevin has a strong history of public and nonprofit charitable service. In 2016 and 2017, Kevin received national recognition with the Top Real Estate Counsel award presented by First Chair. In 2019, First Chair further recognized Kevin with its Top General Counsel award.

He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Political Science from the Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver Strum College of Law.

David Bracht
President Homebuilding & Acquisitions

David Bracht’s role is to maintain the high standards and best pactices developed in Southen Land Company’s award winning Westhaven community in Franklin, TN and execute new master planned communities across the United States. A 28-year veteran of the homebuilding industry, he has the experience to improve quality while navigating entry into new markets.

Most recently, David was the Denver Division President and Land Company President for Oakwood Homes overseeing all land acquisition, entitlement and development activities for the entire company as well as all aspects of the Denver Division’s operations. Previously he was the Midwest Regional President for the Drees Company in Fort Mitchell, KY, and has been a homebuilding or land division present for Pulte, Lennar and Neumann Homes. Bracht graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and earned his CPA working for Arthur Andersen & Company.

Marty Posthauer
President Construction

Marty leads Southern Land Company’s Commercial Construction Division, overseeing a team of project engineers, estimators and accounting personnel specializing in high-rise and mixed-use development. He brings more than 30 years of experience to the position, including management of significant projects in the commercial and residential sectors.

Before joining Southern Land Company, Marty was a Senior Vice President of Construction focused on mixed-use residential developments, completing numerous projects valued at over $400 million. He also previously served as President and CEO of Tauer, LLC and TCR SE construction.

Marty graduated with honors from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Technology.

Dustin Downey
Senior Vice President Residential Development

Dustin started at Southern Land Company in 2005, and today leads Southern Land Company’s Northeast Division of multifamily development, including acquisitions, construction management and mixed-used development. He is responsible for all aspects of the acquisition and development process, making sure his projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Currently Dustin’s team is directing the development and construction of three Southern Land projects in Philadelphia, PA: 3601 Market, 3750 Lancaster and 1911 Walnut. Dustin previously worked on several successful Southern Land projects including Elliston23, a LEED Certified Silver mixed-use project in Nashville. Dustin also directed the development of Devon Four25 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and helped oversee the Arthouse and Lofts at Watters Creek developments in Texas.

Dustin is a graduate of Vanderbilt University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

Michael McNally
Senior Vice President Multifamily Development

Michael oversees all aspects of development for Southern Land Company’s Tennessee, Denver and Boulder Colorado multifamily and mixed-use projects. Specifically, he has seen great success with the company’s Dwell at McEwen, Elliston 23 and Junction 15 multifamily communities, as well as the Southside at McEwen retail project.

With more than 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, Michael has focused on multifamily development and investments. Prior to joining Southern Land Company in 2007, Michael served as Vice President of Covenant Capital Group, a real estate private equity investment firm.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Industrial Relations from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Cindy DeFrancesco
Senior Vice President Multifamily Operations

Cindy works to ensure that Southern Land Company’s multifamily projects are distinctive and comprehensive communities, offering an inspired, artful lifestyle to each and every resident. Addressing all operational aspects of multifamily and mixed-use development, Cindy leads a diverse set of functions from property management to budgeting, as well as establishing rental rates, managing lease-up absorption, and contributing to the determination of each property’s unit mix and overall design scheme.

Cindy brings extensive industry experience in property operations, acquisitions, repositioning, construction and talent management to Southern Land Company. She previously served as Managing Director at Greystar/Riverstone Residential Group where she led operations for a 15,000-unit, Class A portfolio spanning nine states. She also held the role of Executive Vice President at Continental Realty Corporation in Baltimore, overseeing the acquisition of 15 multifamily projects in just five years.

Ben Crenshaw
Senior Vice President Design

Ben leads Southern Land Company’s mission to create memorable environments. Whether he is designing a brand-new community, planning a mixed-use development or creating sanctuary in a rooftop garden, he ensures no detail is overlooked. By jointly managing the efforts of Southern Land Company’s design and engineering teams, Ben delivers function and form to every project.

Ben brings over 20 years of experience to his position, including work recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Urban Land Institute. Prior to joining Southern Land Company, Ben worked in master planning and resort design for Reece, Hoopes and Fincher in Atlanta; and held positions at Hawkins Partners, Inc. in Nashville; and Post Landscape Group in Atlanta.

Ben is certified by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) and is registered in Tennessee, Texas, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Colorado. He holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Contracting, both from Mississippi State University.

Mike Massing
Senior Vice President Human Resources

Mike Massing is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources policy, practice, and strategy, including end-to-end talent management/acquisition, total rewards, personnel development, employee relations, employment branding, and performance management of the company’s 400+ employees. He ensures there is a strong linkage between the company's strategic goals for growth and entry into new markets and service and has a passion for increasing employee engagement and job satisfaction.

Mike has over 30 years of experience in Fortune 100 companies and small, dynamic sales environments. His prior company affiliations include GTE, Verizon, SuperMedia, and DexYP. He most recently served as Vice President of Human Resources Consulting with Treyburn Human Resources Group in Dallas, Texas. 

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in operations management from the University of Evansville and an MBA from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mike also studied labor relations at Cornell University. 


Larissa Caprio
Chief Accounting Officer

As Chief Accounting Officer since 2015, Larissa is responsible for all facets of accounting for Southern Land Company, and the Southern Land Homebuilding and Southern Land Commercial Construction Divisions. She oversees all audits, tax returns, financials and reporting for every project that SLC develops and manages.

Previously Larissa spent 15 years with a developer in Pennsylvania, with a focus on single-family homebuilding, multifamily apartments, and commercial construction activities in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey.

Larissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Black Hills State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Global Management Accountant.

Danny Lane
Senior Vice President Design

As Senior Vice President of Design, Danny oversees all of the details that add up to Southern Land Company’s signature communities and streetscapes. This includes oversight of conceptual design and maintenance of strict design standards, creating community guidelines, managing the design review process, selecting builders, specifying exterior materials and colors to provide diversity and unique streetscapes, determining the right amenity program for each community and supervising the model home program. Since joining Southern Land Company in 2002, Danny has been instrumental in creating exceptional communities across Tennessee and Texas.

Prior to his current position, Danny gained a broad base of experience in residential design, as well as neighborhood planning with Looney Ricks Kiss Architects in Memphis. In this role, Danny designed, documented and reviewed homes in many high-profile traditional neighborhoods in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Florida and Tennessee.

Charles Warner
Senior Vice President Mixed-Use & Commercial Leasing

Charles Warner is responsible for leasing all commercial and retail properties for Southern Land nationally. He will continue to execute the company’s strategy of incorporating carefully merchandised retail and commercial spaces within development projects to provide highly-synergistic elements that promote community, lifestyle, entertainment, and convenience while maximizing investor returns. 

Warner has received many accolades throughout his career. He has been awarded the Nashville Business Journal’s CRE MVP for Retail Properties, and been recognized for the last 10 consecutive years as a Costar “Power Broker for Retail Properties”. Charles has served on numerous real estate panels and is regularly-published in industry trade magazines as a retail expert.

Charles has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Richmond. 

Matt Magallanes
Vice President Business Development

Matt Magallanes is responsible for Southern Land Company’s corporate-level branding marketing initiatives, including public relations, social media, website, advertising and branding. Over the past 14 years with Southern Land Company, Matt has filled a variety of executive roles for the company, including VP of Business Development positions in product launch, capital markets, real estate, marketing, hospitality and acquisitions. His extensive experience across multiple product divisions within the firm gives him a unique and holistic understanding of the company’s vision, capabilities and branding requirements.

Prior to Southern Land Magallanes was Vice President of CCS in Christiansburg, VA. He was Co-founder and Vice President of Sales Marketing for Modular Industrial Computers, Inc. in Chattanooga, TN and Founder and President of Computer Innovations, Inc. also in Chattanooga, TN. Matt served for 4 years in the US Army before attending Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Jan Cooper
Vice President Residential Marketing

Jan Cooper is responsible for marketing the company’s award-winning Westhaven community in Franklin, TN as well other master planned communities across the United States. She will also provide analysis and develop new marketing programs for upcoming projects in expansion markets, including Denver, CO.

Jan is a 20-year veteran of the homebuilding and real estate industry with experience in operations management, brand creation, marketing communications, and startups of large master-planned communities. Most recently, she was the VP of Strategic Marketing and Planning at Mattamy Homes responsible for guiding their US Business through a period of tremendous growth. Prior to Mattamy, Jan was with iStar, a real estate investment trust based in New York, where she directed the positioning and marketing of a $1 billion land portfolio. Jan has also held positions as a VP of Operations for Pulte in Georgia and was Pulte's Southeast Area Vice President of Strategic Marketing. 

Jan has a degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina. 

Karla Cavazos
Vice President Commercial Design and Construction

Karla Cavazos has the critical role of synchronizing in house and A&E teams with Southern Land Company’s Commercial Construction Division to maintain high quality, reduce costs and accelerate delivery. Duties include managing A&E contracts, coordinating construction process with design and collaborating with Southern Land’s development teams from concept to completion.

Karla is a 25-year veteran of architectural operations management. Most recently she served as Executive Vice President of Operations with Humphreys & Partners Architects, LLP out of their Dallas, TX headquarters capping her 23 years with the same firm. In this role she oversaw all facets of architectural operations for 7 national offices and 2 international offices having a large practice in contract documents and construction administration services. The full-service firm focused on multifamily, mixed-use and hospitality/resort designs from mid-rise to high-rise in different markets across the country.

Karla holds AIA, CSI, SCT, and LEED Green Associate designations. A graduate of University of Texas at Arlington, Karla holds a Bachelor of Science Architecture. She has worked on many award-winning projects nationally that are similar to Southern Land Company’s portfolio and strategic growth plans.


Dan Gilbert
Vice President Homebuilding

As Vice President of Homebuilding for SLC Homebuilding, LLC, Dan oversees all of aspects of the Homebuilding groups in both Tennessee and Texas. This includes oversight of product development, sales and negotiations, purchasing and estimating, better building practices, and day to day operations.  SLC Homebuilding specializes in building custom homes with the highest architectural details with a focus on customer satisfaction.  Since joining Southern Land Company in 2005, Dan has been a part of the construction of over 700 custom homes in 6 different  SLC communities.

Dan earned his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Western Kentucky University and his Masters of Education with a focus on Institutional Advancement from Vanderbilt University.

Shane White
Vice President Urban Planning & Development

Shane White is Vice President of Planning & Urban Design for Southern Land Company. He spearheads all master planning for both single-family and mixed-use development projects, and performs yield and program studies for all Southern Land acquisitions across the nation. His design and creativity helps to frame a vision for each environment and ensure the ultimate success of each development.  Throughout each design phase, Shane provides insight and analysis to architecture and engineering consultants to ensure Southern Land Company’s vision is maintained.  He also manages Project Entitlement negotiations including zoning research, coordination with City and Neighborhood groups, and presentations for project approvals.

Shane joined Southern Land Company in 2005 and has over 20 years of experience in master planning, urban design and landscape architecture. His work has been recognized by The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), and Urban Land Institute (ULI). Prior to joining Southern Land Company, Shane was Landscape Architect and Planner for the Urban Design Studio at Gresham Smith in Nashville, TN.

Shane is certified by the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Board (CLARB) and is registered in South Carolina.  He is a member of the Nashville chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).  Shane earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Clemson University in 1999.

Heidi Majerik
Vice President of Community Development

As Vice President of Community Development, Heidi will be managing Southern Land Company’s new development in Erie, CO. near Denver that will include over 1,100 parcels. Heidi has spent the last couple of years with a local home builder in Denver running land acquisition and lending. Prior to that Heidi worked for almost 14 years on the development team with the Forest City Group developing Stapleton in Denver. Stapleton was one of the largest TND’s built in the country over the last 30 years and encompassed over 4,700 acres.

Tom Skube
VP SW Multifamly Development
Tom Skube oversees the entire development cycle for the company’s multifamily and mixed-use projects in the Southwest Regions. He has responsibility for coordinating development from planning to delivery, working with design, architecture, engineering, marketing and construction teams.
Kevin House
Vice President Multifamily Development West
Kevin House oversees the entire development cycle for the company’s multifamily and mixed-use projects in the Southwestern and Western Regions. He has responsibility for coordinating development from planning to delivery, working with design, architecture, engineering, marketing and construction teams.
Kevin has 20-years of experience in construction and project management, joining Southern Land in 2018.  Prior to joining Southern Land Company, Kevin was a Sr. Construction Manager for Crescent Communities in Greenwood Village, CO, a Senior Construction Manager with BROE Real Estate Group in Denver, CO. and Project Manager with The Hanover Company, also in Denver. He was Development Manager for multifamily and infrastructure on the master-planned Stapleton redevelopment project in Denver and worked on the Crescent Highlands development in Phoenix Arizona.
Kevin received his B. S., Civil Engineering from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colorado in 1999.  He holds both OSHA and LEED certifications.
Gabrielle Lerner
Vice President Hotel Investments and Acquisitions

Gabrielle Lerner works out of Southern Land Company’s New York Office to focus on hotel investments and acquisitions growth. Gabrielle (Gaby) has participated in a number of development and acquisition projects within the mixed-use and hotel industry, and has extensive experience in business development, feasibility and valuation. 

Prior to joining Southern Land Company, Gaby was the Senior Director of Development for Vail Resorts in Broomfield, CO, working on notable deals in the Keystone and Breckenridge areas that created value for the mountain and in the base areas. She previously served as the Vice President of Development at Miller Global Properties and the Senior Director of Investment Services at Richfield Hospitality, both in Denver, where she was responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing hospitality acquisitions and developments. Before moving to Colorado, Gaby worked with PKF|CBRE in Los Angeles where she was responsible for hospitality real estate ventures and feasibility analysis and was a publisher of PKF’s Trends® in the Hotel Spa Industry report.

Gaby holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration.

Becca Reilly
Director of Human Resources

Becca joined Southern Land Company in 2002 and leads all HR initiatives including workforce planning, career development, talent acquisition, rewards and recognition, performance management, employee relations, compliance, benefits, compensation administration and training and development.

Becca is charged with overseeing Southern Land Company’s greatest asset – our people. She and her Human Resources team strategically partner with key business leaders to provide an environment that supports professional development to maximize opportunity for success.

Becca holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute.

Joe Rossi
Director of Acquisitions - Northeast

Joe is the Northeast Director of Acquisitions specializing in the identification of premium sites for the company to construct large-scale multifamily mixed use projects. His responsibilities extend from involvement in the initial land purchase through the re-zoning process, appropriate permits and collaboration with the Master Developer and Construction Manager on each building.

Previously, Joe spent four years as a Senior Associate of Investment Sales with Sabre Real Estate, where he closed 100’s of millions of dollars in transactions, negotiated commercial retail leases with national tenants, and secured $1.5 billion in off-market sellable listings. His prior career included entrepreneurial experience as a Partner of an exotic automotive dealership and General Manager of Formula One Motor Sports dealership. During his early career, he supervised construction crews on projects for Con Edison and the NYC DOE and DOT for Pim Corporation.

Alex Woodin
Director of Acquisitions - West

Alex strives to expand Southern Land Company’s development footprint westward by exploring new markets for future development prospects. These sites are often characterized by high barriers to entry, strong demographics and a nearness to vibrant neighborhood amenities.

Prior to joining SLC in 2014, Alex underwrote large scale redevelopment projects and managed construction management software implementations for Aimco. More recently, he worked for Shorenstein as an asset management analyst in San Francisco analyzing commercial leases, deriving building valuations and assisting in building acquisitions and dispositions.

Alex graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science and earned a Master’s of Business Administration, focusing in Real Estate and Finance, from the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business.

Robb Frye
Director of Acquisitions

Robb leads Southern Land Company’s acquisitions department, overseeing all aspects of market analysis, site selection, feasibility and entitlements for future developments across the U.S. Under Robb’s direction, Southern Land Company prioritizes due diligence and key data metrics to ensure its investment and development opportunities yield long-term value. Robb pursues an acquisitions strategy focused on vibrant, high barrier-to-entry submarkets exhibiting strong population growth, an expanding employment base and close proximity to popular lifestyle amenities.

Robb joined Southern Land Company in 2011, bringing with him nearly 15 years of real estate experience, primarily in markets in the Southeast and on the West Coast. In past positions, he specialized in land sales and retail leasing for Cassidy Turley, and in acquisitions for Lennar’s Urban Division, both in San Diego.

Robb graduated from the University of Tennessee with Bachelor of Art’s degrees in Finance and Economics. He is also a member of the Nashville chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
