2-acre mixed-use project in Upper Kirby moves closer to breaking ground

Nashville-based Southern Land Co. appears to be moving closer toward breaking ground on its first Houston-area project, a $171 million, 2-acre mixed-use development in Upper Kirby near River Oaks.

A filing submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said the company plans to build a 37-story apartment tower with a total of 330 residential units at 2811 Kirby Drive. The apartment tower also will have 15,034 square feet of retail-restaurant space.
