New EVP to oversee real estate developer’s master-planned community portfolio and pipeline of 8,000 lots

Southern Land Company (SLC), a national real estate developer of award-winning master-planned, single-family, and mixed-use communities, has hired Jim Henry as the company’s Executive Vice President, Single-Family Community Development. In this newly created role, Henry oversees SLC’s single-family and master-planned communities in each phase of their life cycles, from ideation to delivery.

“Creating exceptional master-planned and single-family communities requires an incredibly knowledgeable and talented team,” said Brian Sewell, SLC president and COO. “We are fortunate to have Jim Henry leading our teams nationwide to ensure our communities are distinctive and equally heightened in design and lifestyle, and also to prepare for future opportunities to bring SLC Communities to new markets. His proven track record in developing large-scale, luxury communities will be instrumental in elevating our projects and enhancing the resident experience across all our single-family properties.”

As Executive Vice President, Single-Family Community Development, Henry will direct the overall strategy of each SLC master-planned community. His role will be critical in developing the 8,000 lots in SLC’s single-family pipeline, as well as ensuring significant growth in SLC Homes, the company’s in-house homebuilding division, which aims to sell more than 300 homes annually. He will work with teams across all development phases, including conception, land planning, marketing, production and delivery, operations, lifestyle, and more, to identify opportunities to elevate SLC’s standards and improve the overall homeowner experience. As a former homeowner and resident of Westhaven, SLC’s award-winning master-planned community in Franklin, Tennessee, Henry is familiar with the impact SLC’s meticulous planning and design has on residents.

“When working to deliver a high-caliber community, there’s so much intentionality that goes into every step of the process,” Henry said. “SLC is a leader in this. It is an honor to join a company that puts such an emphasis on foresight and attention to detail. After living in Westhaven, I am excited to help bring the same standard of excellence to other communities across the country.”

With over 25 years in real estate development, specifically master-planned and large-scale communities, Henry brings a wealth of experience to his role. Prior to joining SLC, Henry spent time at renowned real estate development companies including Discovery Land Company, Newland Communities, Republic Property Group, and Bald Head Island Limited, LLC. During his time with these companies, Henry served in critical supervisory roles in the development of prestigious communities, including Discovery Land Company’s Troubadour Golf and Field Club, a more than 800-acre master-planned resort and private club community in Tennessee; Newland Communities’ Riverlights, a 1,400-acre master-planned community in North Carolina; Republic Property Group’s Walsh, a 1,600 acre high-concept master-planned community in Texas; and Bald Head Island, a 2,000-acre luxury resort and master-planned community on a coastal barrier island in North Carolina.

Henry is based in SLC’s Plano, Texas, office.

SLC’s current roster of single-family and master-planned communities in various phases of development and operation includes:

  • Westhaven, a 1,500-acre, 3,500-home, award-winning master-planned community in Franklin, Tennessee
  • A 372-acre, 700-home master-planned community in Nolensville, Tennessee
