New Michael Schulson restaurant concept will join Philadelphia’s first Equinox fitness club at the luxury residential tower scheduled to open fall 2022

On Tuesday, September 28, Southern Land Company (SLC)  announced the official topping off of The Laurel, Philadelphia’s tallest ultra-luxury residential tower. Rising 599 feet above Philadelphia’s famed Rittenhouse Square, the 48-story tower continues to be developed as the last newly constructed residential building on Philadelphia’s most coveted location.

The event featured remarks by SLC Founder and CEO Tim Downey, SLC Senior Vice President of Residential Development Dustin Downey, Philadelphia City Councilmember Allan Domb, and Chef and Restauranteur Michael Schulson.

“The Laurel represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own an iconic piece of Philadelphia, with unparalleled views and amenities to match its storied location,” said Tim Downey, SLC founder and CEO. “It’s been an incredible journey as we continue to expand our offerings and create a truly unique experience for our residents.”

In addition to providing luxury living options to residents, The Laurel is expected to positively impact Philadelphia’s economy.

“The Laurel will provide new job opportunities, generate new revenues for our city and schools, and create an environment that attracts people to our city,” said Councilmember Allan Domb, City of Philadelphia. “We need to be doing everything we can to sustain and attract residents if we are going to compete with our suburban neighbors and other large cities. These are the types of investments that are ‘game changers’ and allow our city to be leaders – rather than followers.”

At the event, Michael Schulson announced that Schulson Collective, a group of popular restaurants in Philadelphia and beyond, will open its latest restaurant concept on the ground floor of the tower. Schulson will bring his signature blend of impeccable taste and creative vision to The Laurel that has made his restaurants some of the most sought-after reservations in the region.

“I’m honored to be part of this exciting project, a stunning addition to Rittenhouse Square and a sign of monumental growth for our city,” said Schulson, founder and CEO of Schulson Collective. “We hope residents and visitors alike will enjoy what we’ll bring to the table. Much like the team behind The Laurel, Schulson Collective is best known for our commitment to craftmanship and elegant hospitality, making this a truly effortless and seamless partnership.”

Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, The Laurel’s soaring height and all-glass design allows for sweeping views of the Center City skyline while simultaneously offering the utmost privacy to its tower’s residents. Each floor plan features expansive corner residences, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the City and the park. Once complete in fall 2022, the project will include 65 condominiums on the uppermost floors and 184 apartments.

The Laurel will also feature 44,000 square feet of high-end restaurant and retail space on the first three floors wrapping around Walnut, Sansom, and 20th Streets. Solidly rooted in Philadelphia’s brick-and-stone traditions, the building’s pedestal forms a welcoming streetscape of carefully curated restaurants and retailers that will include the new Schulson restaurant and Philadelphia’s first Equinox Fitness, the global leader in lifestyle fitness and performance.

Residents of The Laurel will enjoy white glove amenities, including valet parking; an indoor pool and hot tub; a five-star fitness center with a luxury locker room, steam room, and sauna; a yoga and cycling room; a Club Room with bar and catering kitchen and terrace overlooking Rittenhouse Square; a conference room; and even a dog spa. Residents can also take advantage of the rental suite for out-of-town guests as well as a luxury car service.

To meet even the most discerning owner’s travel needs, The Laurel previously announced its partnership with Wheels Up, a revolutionary membership-based private aviation company. Residents of The Laurel will have access to a members-only fleet of close to 100 aircraft and a network of 1,000+ Wheels Up-approved partner aircraft.

The Laurel will offer residences with prices starting around $2.5 million. Full-floor penthouses are also available.

SLC is currently accepting private showings by appointment only in the beautifully appointed sales center at 1845 Walnut Street. Interested buyers can view interactive visuals of their future home and experience finish options and design features in the sales center’s beautifully appointed model kitchen, living area and master bath.
