Southern Land Company (SLC), a national real estate developer of award-winning mixed-use developments and master-planned communities, has named Alex Cauchon Vice President, Hospitality for all active and in-development mixed-use communities in the company’s portfolio. Cauchon brings more than 25 years of experience in hospitality to this newly created role and will deliver the same caliber of thoughtfulness and intentionality to SLC communities’ food and beverage offerings that have become synonymous with SLC’s development and design practices.

“Curating food and beverage offerings to complement the high level of design and bespoke residences that we offer in every SLC community is a logical next step in our company’s efforts to create extraordinary places and experiences,” said Tim Downey, SLC founder and CEO. “Alex’s comprehensive background in hospitality will help us incorporate restaurants and bars tailored to match the lifestyles of our residents.”

With a portfolio of active communities and pipeline of mixed-use and master-planned communities, which will include ample commercial, retail, and restaurant spaces, Cauchon was appointed to this position to formally establish SLC as a leader in hospitality. He will oversee efforts to curate the best food and beverage offerings for SLC projects that feature restaurant and dining components. Cauchon will be based in SLC’s New York City office at Rockefeller Center.

“Any restaurant we add to our communities has to deliver unmistakable value to the overall experience for residents and visitors,” said Cauchon. “This could mean a high-end restaurant at our project coming to Houston’s Upper Kirby neighborhood or the perfect family-friendly brewpub for Westerly in Erie, Colorado. We will be diligent in our efforts and highly selective to ensure we are creating attractive, dynamic destinations.”

Prior to joining SLC, Cauchon spent five years as an independent hospitality consultant. In this role, he advised various restaurants, fine-dining establishments, and hospitality groups on operations, food and beverage programming, design, recruitment, and more.

Before working as a consultant, Cauchon spent 12 years with BR Guest Hospitality, where he served in various roles, ultimately overseeing operations of 25 locations in five states with a total annual revenue of $140M. Throughout his career in hospitality, Cauchon has demonstrated his leadership and resourcefulness to achieve financial goals, drive customer experience, recruiting and retaining top talent, and generating revenue through creative thinking and programming.

SLC currently operates four active communities with commercial and restaurant space:

  • Vertis Green Hills in Nashville, Tennessee’s desirable Green Hills neighborhood
  • Auric Symphony Park in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, Nevada
  • The Laurel Rittenhouse Square, an ultra-luxury high-rise set on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Westhaven, an award-winning master-planned community in Franklin, Tennessee, with a robust Village Center complete with a variety of dining establishments, as well as Westhaven Golf Club, which includes multiple dining options

In its current pipeline, SLC has 10 mixed-use projects in various phases of development and construction:

Additionally, SLC has plans for a Village Center with retail and restaurant offerings at Westerly, SLC’s new master-planned community in Erie, Colo.
